Marco de Canaveses e a Guerra do Ultramar
The book brings together a portrait of the Portuguese presence in the territories of Angola, Mozambique and Guinea-Bissau, crossing the historical context of the conflict with the memories and testimonies of former combatants.
The cover is based on an abstract graphic inspired by a location sight, which evokes the marking of a target and the point of impact of a bomb. An image with a strong symbolic charge, which introduces from the outset the tension and dimension of the conflict addressed throughout the publication.
Each page gathers different identification and memory elements: the name of the combatant, composed in a calligraphic typography that refers to the correspondence sent home, a passport-type photograph, a stamp with the date of departure and provenance, as well as a map indicating the territory where he was stationed. The flag of the country and an icon representing the conflict complete this visual introduction to each individual route.
The color choice, based on terracotta tones, black and grey, evokes the color of the earth and the somber atmosphere associated with the period portrayed.
